How it works
Monkey layers social features such as Cards, Moments, DMs and bananas on top of its core random video matching. Features are rolled out and renamed over time, so what you see may differ slightly depending on your app version and region.
Main features in Monkey
- Video chat: one-on-one random matches with people around the world.
- Squad Chat / 2P Chat: group video calls with friends.
- Cards: swipe profiles and send Super Likes.
- Moments: short videos posted to your profile.
- DMs and text chat: keep talking after a match.
- Bananas: rewards you can redeem for merch drops.
- Profiles: moods and a profile song that plays on your card.
Privacy settings to review
- Assume anything on screen could be recorded by the other person, even if the app does not offer recording.
- Never send money, gift cards, codes or photos to someone you met through random chat.
- Skip immediately if a chat turns sexual, aggressive or uncomfortable; you never owe a stranger an explanation.
- Check what is visible in your camera frame: mail, uniforms, windows and family photos all reveal more than you think.
Getting the most out of it
Use features that keep you in control: Squad Chat with a friend you know, DMs only with people you have had a good conversation with, and Moments that do not reveal where you live or study. The more you treat Monkey as a place for light, in-the-moment chats, the better the experience tends to be.
